Animal Cruelty: Where it Happens, Why it Needs to Be Outlawed
January 30, 2020
For years humans have used animals to entertain others or themselves, but they don’t realize that animals belong in nature not in cages that are like jails to them. People that take ‘care’ of these wild animals should consider to do something that can help the endangered and even rare animals be free from zoo’s, aquariums, and worse circuses. Putting animals in danger and forcing them to go into small pens is wrong to do to them specifically because they need freedom as much as humans do.
Since 1782 circuses have been using animals to earn money but to be able to get wealthy circus training for animals was often brutal and dangerous. Training methods men used on animals can include the use of beating clubs, electric prods, and deprivation of food. In addition to this, many circus animals travel for 11 months a year in box cars without temperature control, or separate spaces for sleeping, eating, and defecating. All animals in the circus get beat so much that they even snap, meaning their bones get so weak that they break. In more than 35 dangerous incidents since the year 2000, elephants have ran away from circuses, crashed into buildings, attacked members of the public, and killed and injured handlers.
Sea animals have also suffered from incidents that causes them to die or get sick, and the sickness can spread to other animals that where not in contact with said animal. Water animals such as whales and dolphins are accustomed to traveling distances of 40 to 100 miles in a day, but when confined to a tank, they instead begin swimming in static patterns and then they get used to being trapped in a box. In some ways aquariums are good for animals because animals get education and it’s cozy for creatures to stay in, but these creatures imprint on humans and do not adapt with their own kind and worse they stay trapped in zoo’s and aquariums instead of being in their natural habitat.
It is wrong to keep animals caged in zoo’s because by this action it causes animals to go in depression and get bored. According to the BBC company, zoo creatures and critters are deprived from their natural habitat and the animals that are always watched by tourists do not have enough space to enjoy themselves. The animals are forced into close proximity with other species and human beings which may be unnatural for them, and being close to humans can put both the animals and the human in question, in danger. Although animals may live longer lives in zoos than in the wild, they may experience a lower quality of life being trapped behind a glass wall.
People who can help these poor animals to get their freedom that they need should consider helping. My personal opinion is that it is wrong to keep animals in zoo’s, aquariums, and circuses because animals can get killed and hit by humans. Entertainment is fun but when it comes to using creatures in order to make us humans happy, I do not approve.
